Guess the USA in Street View
Desert, prairie, forest or coast: on the USA map you guess which state you landed in and how close you can get to the exact spot.
Play for freeWhat to expect
The map covers the West, the Midwest, the South and the Northeast, plus the roads of Alaska and Hawaii. Only Street View imagery from 2012 or later appears.
Clues that help
- Licence plates: every state has its own colours and designs. Some states only require a rear plate, so a missing front plate narrows it down.
- Road signs: Interstates have red-and-blue shields, US highways white ones, and state routes have their own shapes depending on the state.
- Landscape: desert and cacti in the Southwest, prairie and dead-straight grid roads in the Midwest, broadleaf forests in the Northeast, swamps and hanging moss in the Deep South.
- Units: speed limits are in miles per hour, the centre line is yellow.
- Alaska and Hawaii: snowy mountains and spruce along empty roads point to Alaska, volcanic rock and tropical plants to Hawaii.
Scoring on this map
On the USA map, about 600 kilometres off still scores about 1,900 points, 100 kilometres about 4,250. Full 5,000 points within 25 metres.
