Guess the world in Street View
The classic: you are dropped anywhere from Alaska to New Zealand. Find the continent first, then the country, then the region.
Play for freeWhat to expect
The world map covers North America, Mexico and Central America, South America, Europe, western Russia, southern, eastern and western Africa, the Middle East, India and Sri Lanka, South-East Asia, Japan and Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and the coasts of Iceland and Greenland. Only Street View imagery from 2012 or later appears.
Clues that help
- Driving side: left-hand traffic narrows it down a lot, for example to the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Kenya, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
- The sun: if the sun is in the north, you are in the southern hemisphere.
- Script: Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Devanagari, Thai, Hangul or kanji rule out whole regions of the world.
- Vegetation and soil: red soil appears in Brazil, Australia and parts of Africa, birch forests in the north, palm trees in the tropics.
- Roads: yellow centre lines are typical for the Americas, white ones for Europe. The shape of roadside bollards often gives away the country.
- Street View coverage: not every country has Street View. Knowing where Google has driven rules out many countries.
Scoring on this map
On the world map, about 1,100 kilometres off still scores about 1,800 points. On top you get +250 points for the right continent and another +500 points for the right country.
